A golden era of film, we still get a buzz of excitement when we see any of these show up on our programme guide. Below we made a list of 80s movies that should be shared with your kids, because every kid should know about hoverboards, the ‘need for speed’ and catching flies with chopsticks. We’ve included an age rating suggestion however it’s up to you, parental discretion advised.
1. The Goonies – [13+]
The year was 1985 and this story of a small group of neighbourhood kids is full of adventure. On the search for the ‘X’ found on an old map in their attic, two brothers are hoping to find treasure to save them from losing their home. A Steven Spielberg classic, the groups of friends encounter more challenges then they’d hoped for as a group of bad guys have sniffed out the treasure.
2. E.T the Extra-Terrestrial – [8+]
Released in 1982, a friendly alien is stranded on earth and finds much needed help in a boy named Elliott. It soon becomes apparent that all E.T wants to do is ‘phone home’ and be with his family. A story of comedy and friendship.
3. Back To The Future – [10+]
The year? 1985 of course. The Doc, Marty, Biff, Jennifer, a Delorean time machine and the flux capacitor which make time travel possible. Need we say more… oh yes sorry, watch the trilogy!
